Blackberry finally scored record sales

Research In Motion (RIM), Canada, maker of the BlackBerry, claims to have scored record sales in the first quarter of this fiscal year. The company is headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario, has revealed has shipped 11.2 million devices in the quarter ended on 29 May, an increase compared to same period the previous year which only 10.5 million units. With the result, RIM's record first-quarter net profit amounted to 769 million dollars, up 19.5 percent compared with the same quarter last year, while revenues grew 24 percent to 4.24 billion U.S. dollars. These results are still below the revenue estimates RIM.

The number of service users the BlackBerry is expected to grow 4.9 million subscribers during the first quarter, or about the size of the total customer additions in the previous quarter. The number of service users BlackBerry is currently estimated to reach 46 million subscribers. "We believe that the various products attract new Blackberry, which was launched in the coming months will create significant opportunities to accelerate the growth of RIM," said Co-CEO of RIM, Jim Balsillie in a statement on Thursday (24/06/2010).

Earlier this month, the Wall Street Journal reported that RIM is developing a touch screen smart phone with-out keyboard and a tablet computer slides to widescreen support services for the BlackBerry. Such a move is likely designed to prevent market BlackBerry taken by the iPhone and Apple iPad creations as well as mobile devices that use the Android operating system owned by Google .
